I absolutely love your site! My fiance and I are actually looking to buy a duplex this coming spring and your website is so amazingly informative! I am actually an interior designer by trade and comfort height toilets are becoming more common because they are ADA compliant (Americans with disabilities act) and many baby boomers seniors like to install them bc it is easier on older knees, hips, backs etc. Just a tip. Again I love the site and think you seem like such a cool lady!

I've had this problem before with my own toilet. Our water turns muddy occasionally and sediment gets trapped in the ports. I have an older toilet so what I am about to suggest here may not work on all toilets.

I buy a gallon of muriatic acid. I set up a large fan to ventilate the bathroom. I pull the top off the tank.I shut off the water supply and flush the tank. I then take a plunger and force out as much water as I can out of the bowl. I put on protective clothing and safety glasses. There is a long tube in my tank that sticks up above the water level. I do not know the name of it. You pour the acid into this tube and it will go directly to the clogged ports. It will dissolve the clogs and any hard water sediment. i will let it set for a few minutes then turn the water back on. Once the tank has filled I flush the toilet. You might be able to get by without draining the tank but I do not know how the acid will react with the water. It may do nothing or it might boil & bubble. At any rate it is a cheaper fix for me to do it this way than it is for me to replace the toilet. I live in a tiny little out of the way town where it is hard to get a plumber to come to for what they consider a small job. So most jobs I have to try doing it myself first.

Great Post and great site. I bought a duplex as well and I have to install a new toilet in my tenant's unit soon. Same problem, just flushes slow. I really don't like thinking about it either. I appreciate the Class 5 Flush info. Maybe make buying a toilet a little easier. Keep up the site, I love it.
